All about baths with a utility block

Baths with a utility block are a very convenient and promising solution. Many people can benefit from the projects of combining it with a barn and a garage under one roof. It is also worth figuring out how to build a corner bath combined with a gazebo or terrace..

Arrangement of a bath with a utility block opens up a number of interesting and extraordinary prospects. Traditionally, the bath room is considered only a place for washing, and sometimes, in general, they are limited only to a summer shower.. But the combination with the utility block gives the room additional functions:

  • workshop;
  • garage;
  • kitchen and dining areas;
  • storage of tools and urgently needed things.

When constructing a bath combined with a utility block:

  • space is reduced compared to separate buildings;
  • the design turns out to be more cost-effective;
  • you have to think carefully about the execution of the building, fire safety measures.

The easiest way is to prepare a project of a bathhouse combined under one roof with a barn. Such a structure looks quite appropriate on any summer cottage. And, importantly, it turns out to be the optimal choice from a practical point of view.. When thinking over a project, in any case, it is required to provide for separate entrances. This is due not only to convenience, but also to basic safety considerations..

If the water supply of the building is planned, then for this it is most correct to make a branch from the main water supply system on the site. The same requirement should apply to the sewerage plan. The bathhouse gives out, although relatively safe liquid waste, but in very large quantities. Always provide a separate branch for discharging wastewater into a ravine or into the main network.

It is possible to manage with a septic tank in rare cases, and the more residents and visitors, the more difficult it is to do this..

But be sure to consider an alternative solution – the layout of the bathhouse with a garage for 2 cars. In this version, 35 m2 was allocated for a home parking lot. The sauna area is about 6 m2, and the bathroom is only 2.5 square meters. m, but in practice this is enough. There is even a separate vestibule with an area of about 4 square meters. m. It is supposed to rest in a special room of 8-9 m2.

Not a bad solution – combining a bath with a gazebo in an angular pattern. The easiest way is to make an open extension out of wood. Carved wooden elements will be the decoration. Outwardly, such a structure looks like a large canopy, although many will willingly compare it to a veranda. In the central part of the gazebo, a table is placed, which turns into a point of attraction for hosts and guests.

But it is better to take kitchen utensils and items for cooking food away, because otherwise it will be too cramped and inconvenient. But it is more correct to equip a more voluminous gazebo.. Then you can put inside:

  • bake;
  • B-B-Q;
  • brazier;
  • comfortable benches.

Of course, the project will have to provide for high-quality ventilation, as well as strictly follow fire safety standards.. You can equip a more protected structure – a bathhouse with a frame workshop; however, the same protective measures still have to be observed, but mainly in the bathhouse part of the building. In this case, construction is usually carried out on screw piles..

You can show originality if you build a bathhouse not just with a farm building for a summer residence – but with a terrace surrounded by glass walls. Then it will be possible, while maintaining a visual connection with the external environment, to reliably protect oneself from wind, rain, even from snow. Of course, in this case, it is worth using impact-resistant glass, which will last quite a long time..

In any case, the bathhouse should be located last in the direction of the dominant winds among all buildings. For obvious reasons, bringing it closer to wooden fences and garden trees, shrubs is also not very reasonable..

When a bathhouse and a residential building are built separately from each other (this is the best solution), the distance between them should remain at least 8 m.It is advisable to distance it from the road as well – even according to legislative norms, at least 5 m.

Important: if there is also a toilet in the bath, it should be removed from wells and open water bodies as far as possible. Even when drafting a summer terrace, it is necessary to provide for the equipment of a permanent floor. The terrace should ideally run along the entire body of the main building.

What material to choose?

Various materials can be used to implement the project..

Log construction looks extremely traditional and soundly. There are quite a few types of joining of logs that allow you to diversify the appearance of the building.. However, high-quality blanks of this kind are not cheap, and there is a great risk of being faced with deception..

It is imperative to carry out processing with fire retardants. This will reduce the risk of fire, but at the same time significantly devalue the naturalness of the material..

Log baths also have to be treated with fire retardants. The difference is that already impregnated products are usually on sale. However, later processing will have to be repeated.. Of course, most good impregnations are safe for health, but they are not cheap.. And yet, timber structures should be recognized as a quite worthy choice..

This material is much more resistant to fire than wood. Often, even after a fire, a significant part of it can be reused.. No problems of the ecological plan should arise. A good brick costs at least 100 years.

However, one must remember about the large amount of manual work and the need to equip a powerful base. Still, it is worthwhile to carry out interior decoration made of wood..

Aerated concrete

This material is inexpensive – cheaper than bricks and is quite comparable to wood. A big plus is the minimum amount of wet work. The large size of the blocks reduces the number of joints – and they not only tend to allow heat to pass through, but also take a lot of time from the builders. It should be noted, however, that aerated concrete absorbs moisture, and it is necessary to cover it with a layer of protection. Together with the finishing, the structure is not so cheap – therefore, the aerated concrete bath should be considered last..

Where to place?

Whenever possible, you need to set aside a place closer to the water for a bath with a utility block. (Observing, of course, sanitary standards). It is equally important to consider that the building must be protected from flooding during high water. It is advisable to hide the bath from prying eyes, masking it with bushes, other buildings. It is also worth fencing the paths leading to the bathhouse..

In the overwhelming majority of cases, it is impossible to build a bathhouse near a reservoir. However, there is a way out – you can install the building on a hill.

A hillside location is also a good idea. In this case, equip a dugout or a semi-dugout on poles..

A few more recommendations:

  • form the entrance from the south side;
  • position windows to the south or southwest to provide maximum natural light;
  • the bath itself and the entrance to it should preferably be located so that you can observe them from home, excluding all kinds of surprises.

Construction stages

Building a bath with a utility block includes several steps.

It is quite possible to build the foundation with your own hands – and the optimal solution is that the foundation of the bathing part and the utility block is the same. All the required communications are pulled up to the extension in advance. Most often, a columnar base is used. On uneven surfaces, it is recommended to use metal piles; the distance between them is 1-2 m.

Marking for any foundation must be done using stakes and tensioned threads. In addition, you will have to mark the places where the supports will have to stand. The holes are dug at least to the depth of the soil freezing. Recommendation: if the soil contains a lot of clay, then it allows you to do without formwork when pouring concrete.

All types of foundations should rise 30-60 cm above the ground.

External walls and partitions are formed from profiled timber, its cross-section is 140×90 mm. The optimum height from floor to ceiling is 2 m. Wooden frames with double glazing are provided in the saunas; the door height is 1.8 m and the width is 80 cm.

Fitting the timber to each other should not be carried out too tightly. All gaps should be saturated with insulation material. The insertion of blocks under windows and doors should be done immediately during construction. Foil should be laid on top of the insulation. Aluminum tape is glued at the joints.

The base for the roof is mounted immediately around the perimeter. Rafters are attached to it. Important: if the chimney or ventilation will be removed not through the roof, but through the wall, this must be done in advance, before installing the roof. The choice of roof cover is limited only by financial considerations. Typical design:

  • pine board frame 50×80 mm;
  • mineral wool;
  • thermal protection due to aluminum foil.

Finishing work

For obvious reasons, it is impractical to use plastic for finishing. The best option is wood. The statement that it is impossible to sheathe the steam room with coniferous boards is deliberately erroneous. Another good option is to use lining. Mounting spike upwards preferred to avoid condensation.

When building on a turnkey basis, builders most often mount the lining in a vertical way. This simplifies the design of the corners and saves valuable time. But the problem is that if the board falls out, you will have to disassemble and repair the entire structure.. It is recommended to insulate the lining with a layer of stone wool.

Important: it is more correct to refuse the use of roofing material and glassine.

Beautiful examples

The photo shows one of the possible options for a bath with a utility block under one gable roof. They even managed to equip a separate entrance, make a beautiful porch and decorative pillars..

But the building may look different – for example, the angular combination of a higher bath and a relatively low storage for firewood..

        The combined structure of a light beam with a dark roof also looks very good. It is immediately clear that the building was included in the chosen landscape design concept.
