Construction of a gazebo with a utility block under one roof

The construction of a gazebo with a utility block (or, which is the same thing, a shed with a veranda under one roof for a summer residence) is a very promising thing. Those who know how to build such a structure on a site greatly benefit in comparison with other gardeners and summer residents. But it is necessary not only to study interesting combined projects, but also to carefully analyze their technical side, get acquainted with the stages of construction work, the selection of materials, and so on..

The preparation of a gazebo with a utility unit under one roof is often undertaken involuntarily. They take such a step due to the acute lack of free space on the site, so that everything is as compact as possible. However, it should be noted that the possibilities of such a design and construction solution are more than they seem at first. Territory savings are beneficial even in relatively large areas. An “extra” flower bed, a couple of trees, a decorative figure and the like have never bothered anyone. By equipping a toilet room in a combined gazebo, it will be possible to make it much more comfortable than usual. At the same time, from an aesthetic point of view, it will be better and will not spoil the external impression even for people with a fine mental organization..

Inside, you can also organize a summer shower.. The combination of the two buildings will free up quite a lot of effort, money, time and labor for the construction and arrangement of the main house, for the improvement of the territory. It is easy to put a barbecue under the roof; even the heaviest pouring rain will not extinguish it.

And, finally, the most important feature – the scope and selection of additional functions are practically unlimited.

There are such basic options:

  • a simple combination of a gazebo and a utility block;

  • adding a barbecue area to them;

  • open summer and closed all-season pergolas;

  • structures of the “kitchen” type (where, in addition to the barbecue, there is a full-fledged stove, and sometimes a fireplace, and, in addition, a dining area is equipped);

  • semi-closed design;

  • rectangular arbor;

  • round execution;

  • square and triangular structure;

  • two-story building.

Choosing a place

The most important thing is the considerations of comfort and safety (they are interconnected). So, since the gazebo is in any case intended for relaxation, it should be as far as possible from cesspools, sewer ditches, compost pits and containers. It is not recommended to put a building near the beds, low garden and garden plants (except for cases when only shade-loving crops are grown in some place). On the north side, a solid wall is usually built to protect against cold winds. In a number of places, a cold wind can come from the east, this must also be taken into account..

To be comfortable inside even on the hottest day, it is useful to bring the combined building together with tall trees. When it is planned to often give dinners there and gather with friends, spend holidays, the gazebo should be placed closer to the kitchen, while observing, of course, the optimal distances between buildings on the site, enshrined in the standards.

If aesthetic pleasure is in the first place, it is necessary to position the building taking into account the beauty of the opening view..

Here are some more recommendations:

  • if there is at least a small reservoir nearby, it is necessary to put a gazebo on its shore – so, of course, to exclude flooding;

  • there must be at least 5 m before the fence or other official border of the site;

  • if possible, the entrance should be removed from the main house and from the gate (gate) – this is important for psychological relaxation;

  • the proximity of a parking lot, playground, well, house windows, as well as a garage is undesirable.

With an extremely acute shortage of space, you can combine not only a gazebo and a shed under a common roof, but also connect them to the veranda of the house. Practice shows that this is a very comfortable and convenient solution. In addition to the common roof, the building should have pronounced glazing elements.. A simple combined outbuilding for a summer residence can also be an interesting option – its appearance is shown in the drawing below. The structure is 11 m long and 4 m wide; 20.32 m2 were allocated for the leisure area, and 20.15 m2 for household needs.

It is not necessary to build a straight building – the corner version can be just as good. Moreover, it can be much more comfortable and opens up interesting design prospects..

Importantly, such a result is successfully achieved even in a small space. The location of corner structures in the very middle of the site is allowed. In this case, the two walls are usually made transparent (glazed), although it is much more common to be placed at the corner of the site or near the fence..

As a basis for a gazebo for a summer residence, together with a utility block, you can take such a structure. True, it will have to be slightly modified, since the barn itself is shown here in its pure form – but this should not cause any problems. In the above image, the building contains 4 rooms at once, and, in addition to the utility block and a place for leisure, it will be possible to arrange more (optional) there:

  • storage for a small amount of firewood;

  • toilet cubicle;

  • shower room;

  • storage space for boats and various small accessories.

For summer leisure, it is quite possible to equip an open-shaped gazebo with a utility block and a barbecue. In this case, a slab foundation is usually formed under the building itself and under its furnace. The structure most often looks like this.

In many summer cottages, they are trying to build a frame combined farm building.. Its main advantages are as follows:

  • profitability;

  • comparative ease of operation;

  • no special requirements for the skill and technical equipment of builders;

  • the ability to abandon complex materials with an ambiguous reputation;

  • optimal ratio of cost and quality.

Materials (edit)

With your own hands, the easiest way is to build a combined outbuilding of boards. If they are of high quality, it will turn out to be no less durable than when using a log. Wood contributes to maintaining an optimal microclimate even on the hottest, wettest or windiest days. The comparative lightness of the structure and its exceptional environmental friendliness testify in favor of this decision. Last but not least, you won’t have to pay a lot for construction. And in terms of design, the prospects are very great..

A good alternative is a tubular profile (alone or in combination with forged metal). Such elements are durable and reliable, not subject to fires. However, they are quite heavy, and steel is more difficult to process than wood. You also need to pay attention to protection from adverse weather conditions..

Metal is sometimes combined with polycarbonate – and this combination looks great.

A true classic of suburban construction is the construction of brick arbors. Quality bricks are relatively strong and stable. It can stand (without noticeable loss in quality and aesthetic properties) for several decades. And there is even a high probability that the building will rather get bored than start to collapse.. Of the alternative, less commonly used materials, it is worth noting:

  • polycarbonate;

  • plastic elements;

  • vines and reeds;

  • aerated concrete and foam concrete blocks;

  • OSB boards.

Construction stages

When building a gazebo with a utility block with your own hands, you need to equip the base. And there is no point in complicating your life by creating a reinforced concrete slab or pouring a tape. All the same, their bearing capacity will be excessive in 99% of cases.. Well, when it is really needed, it is better to entrust the work to experienced specialists, and they themselves will figure out what to base the structure on. Wooden structures are usually propped up by a row of poles plunged into the ground..

Important: if the floor is made of concrete or when using stone construction blocks, pouring the slab is still justified.

The shape of the pillars does not matter – you can choose the one that is easier to achieve. The pipes are rolled up from roofing material and plunged into recesses previously drilled with a garden drill and partially filled with gravel. After installing the reinforcing cage, concrete is poured according to the level, and further work is carried out only after it has gained strength.

The supporting frame rests in most cases on a beam with a section of 10×10 cm. The floor frame is placed directly on the supports and fixed with studs. To prevent direct contact of wood with concrete, you will have to use roofing material. Vertical wall racks also usually have a section of 10×10 cm (less is unreliable, more is too expensive). Experienced carpenters join the wall blanks using a cut-in and cut-out; it is easier and more convenient for an ordinary person to join them on a metal corner.

The walls are built in this order: downstream harness, then the racks, and after them the upper harness. Be sure to use safety struts, stops and jibs. The optimal distance between the uprights is 0.6 m. It is advisable to strengthen the openings for windows and doors in order to avoid trouble. When fastening the gate, reinforced posts are used..

A gazebo with a utility block can be made both with a single-pitched and under a gable roof. The real difference in practicality and appearance, if everything is done well and wisely, is almost impossible to notice.. However, the single-slope solution has an important advantage: it simplifies the work with the rafter system to the limit. If you try gable structures, then only the lightest options. Hip, half-hip and other complex structures are the lot of professionals, and they are not really needed here.

When constructing a roof, take into account the need to equip overhangs. If the length of the structure is 3 m, the rafter legs in length (taking into account the bevel) reach 3.84 m. The most critical parts must be fastened with nails on both sides. To make the rafters more reliable, they are still fixed with metal corners..

Roofing material is almost always ondulin or roofing felt (mounted on the crate).

Finishing work

The summer gazebo is most often trimmed with planed boards sewn directly onto the frame. If you use the herringbone packing scheme, the combined building will look more original. A more modern and reliable solution is the use of siding. Sometimes flat slate, DSP and OSB for painting are also used.. Gazebos are also decorated with:

  • polycarbonate;

  • lining;

  • racks;

  • profiled sheet;

  • clinker.

From the inside, apply:

  • wood;

  • plywood;

  • plastic;

  • facing stone.
